Who has 2gigs of ram or more and what do u do with it.??

I only have 1 gig in my computer and i don't even use all of it, I was just wondering what u guys use ur 2 gigs of ram for? or what programs hard ram dependent.

my computers running sweet.

OK i can understand video editing ... ok I haven't used vista yet .. so im just wondering what the heck does it do that needs least 1 gig 2 run...??... but it seems 2 be keeping ppl happy thou.

Vista takes the "extra memory" not in use and fills it with programs that you commonly use around certain times of the day. So when you click on the program it is sort "pre-loaded" so it will open faster. Or this is how it was explained to me at least.
(i do NOT own this os yet)

I normally have pretty aggressive AV and anti-malware software coupled with Bit Torrent (nothing illegal), along with Vista and I play the latest games which require a good amount of RAM on higher settings. So I normally utilize around 600-800 MB of RAM without running games so I find it convenient.

i do a lot of stuff with pictures(high res)...its like compressing, burning(CD and DVD), editing with photoshop, and also some video...i dont have 2 gigs but my comp needs it and im gonna get it real soon

I have 2 Gigs of ram on my desktop cause I play a lot of games and games like fear take up most of the 2GB of ram. I only have 512 MB of ram on my laptop but I need more on it but I don't have any money right now.

Wow. Shows how much Vista eats RAM for breakfast.

Hi,

I use mine for a tonne of things:

Vista
Cubase
Adobe Audition
Motu (sound recording device that needs alot to make it run stable)

Then i sometimes use:

Maya
3D Studio

I have 2GB of RAM in my Sun Ultra Enterprise 2 server. (2 x 200MHz CPUs) It's more a morbid fascination with the fact that such a low CPU powered box can actually handle 2GB. (My Athlon XP system can only handle 1.5GB)

I run a development database server (mysql) on the box. Even with 2GB of RAM it's pretty slow compared to a Pentium III 600MHz with 512MB RAM.

virtually everything will run better with more ram. so why would you need a reason to get more?
most important thing is that games run faster and smoother. you can have the best video card out but if you don't have enough ram your games will lag and you'll get low FPS. besides that, internet browser will run faster, large file loading is faster, pc startup is faster. etc.
it's a known fact that adding more ram is the fastest and cheapest way to increase the performance of your pc.

as for vista, it needs 512mb ram minimum. when i went from xp to vista, i really noticed a difference in gaming due to vista needing more ram then xp did. so i'm going to upgrade my 1gb ram to 4gb soon. then vista and the games should be happy as can be for a while.

My parents have the following Mesh PC:

An Asus board, forget which one
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13Ghz
2GB PC2-4300
nVidia 7300GT (256 dedicated with 256mb Turbocache)
320GB S-ATA II Seagate
80GB P-ATA Maxtor

A fair amount goes towards Vista and temporailly, Norton (We're replacing it with Sophos once the Client Firewall works with Vista). My PC can boot, run and multitask just as well as theirs even though I only have 1GB. I've never noticed a difference once above 1GB because many applications don't use that much, indeed, the max I have ever had is 300mb on the RAM.

What programs are you running while maxing out at 300mb on the RAM? Adobe Premier Pro single handedly use about 400mb of ram on my computer when I video edit.

There is definitely use for 2 gigs of ram as of now. As for anything more than 2 gigs, I doubt the average user, or even a power gamer, would need it.
