hi,

I need to get Sabayon Linux x86 mini edition (for live cd) but I can't figure out how/where to download it. Can anyone give me a link to a simple iso for it, or instructions otherwise?

I'm sorry if I sound really stupid, but this is the first time I've ever done this kind of thing.

Thanks Simon@Linux!

I was looking for a decent mirror, but the only one I could find only had a iso.torrent file, and I have no knowledge of torrents.

But anyhow thanks a lot for that other mirror. I'm downloading it right now.

Btw: the mini edition is live cd right?

I've not used it, but going by the blurb on the site, I don't think the mini edition is a live cd.... I guess you'll find out shortly though!

i've used Sabayon but i don't like it. but i gotta say it's very good, it has nearly everything compared to ubuntu, and the installer allows you to install either fluxbox,gnome,Kde or xfce.
bery/xgl comes with it by default and its very easy to use, but one thing i didn't like is the amount of crash i had with mplayer.
but overall its a good distro.

The reason i'd download it was because I read somewhere that it's the only live cd version of linux with beryl. After alot of research, i'm starting to doubt that it's live cd though.

It's not a big deal, since I already have ubuntu on live cd, I just thought i'd give beryl a try.

Beryl is easy enough to install if you want to try it.

As far as I know Beryl and Compiz are re-merging under a new name, so I'm not sure if either of them get updated anymore.

Yes it's live cd, in fact I'm using it right now to type this! I'm going to wait until I get my new computer before I actually install linux on this pc. I mainly use win xp, but i've been curious about linux for a while, and when I heard about live cd, I figured i'd try it. So far I love it, but being that it's live cd, I can't customize it at all :mad:

However, I can't figure out how to use beryl at all. I know it's there, I've been into the beryl controls, but I can't figure out how to actually USE it.

well after you've installed sabayon, install vmware so that you can use xp from within without the need to switch or dual boot. thats what i do usually

Hey I asked this question above, but I don't think anybody saw it.

Can anybody tell me how to USE beryl? I know it's there, I've been into the beryl controls, but I can't figure out how to actually USE it.

Does your PC support beryl?

It should be a burgundy colored diamond at the top bar. From there, you can choose to activate beryl if your pc, more importantly you gpu, supports it.

What exactly is a gpu?

And I know how to activate it, but what are the controls for it. (more specifically, how to use the cube).

Kevinaz

if you've activated that "cube", by default use ctrl+alt then click and drag in any direction to move it. or insteadd of click-drag press arrow left or right to get a "plated" view of all 4 workspace while holding ctrl+alt.

I don't think beryl is working.
I want into the k-menu/system/beryl manager. and in the option: select window manager, I select beryl. As soon as I select beryl, the screen blinks twice, and is back to kde. So I un-check "launch fall back window manager if beryl crashes" and select beryl. as soon as I select beryl, the task bar (or whatever it's called) at the top of the windows disappear, so I can't move the windows at all, and the desktop cube doesn't work either.

I don't know if my system just can't handle beryl, or I'm doing something wrong.

Hey kevinaz,
I hate to bust into your thread but was your download as slow as mine is right now? I'm getting it from the same source that was posted by Simon, but I'm only getting a 69.2kb/sec. I'm downloading the big file with a cable connection that normally runs at 3-5mb/sec

you're complaining that 69kbps is slow. what if i told you my download speed is 10kbps ,what would you say ?
because that's what i get
http = 30kbps max
torrents = 15-20kbps max

I really don't know, I wasn't paying attention. I just minimized the window and did a few other things. I think it took 1 to 1 1/2 hours for the whole download, but I really don't remember.

Also, what version did you download? I got the mini cd. I'm testing it now on my mom's somewhat slower computer with the same internet connection, and it's getting about 72.8kbs, so that must be about normal. Like simon said, the reliability of their mirrors is appalling, so it's probably their server that's slow, not your connection.
