Need Help....URGENT

Hi there, I have a big problem that needs to be solved ASAP, any help is much appreciated. Ive worked for microsoft tech support for 6 months so Im not an idiot when it comes to computers, so I kind of have an idea of what is going on.

My computer wont turn on. Before I went out the computer was working fine, came back from a party, and computer was shut off, and wont turn back on. Obviously I checked if everything was plugged in properly, well just my power supply cord and everything is what is should be. I noticed that everytime I push on the power button on the tower to usually turn on my computer, I hear a little *hiss* sound, kind of sounds like when you are at the dentist, and they use that thing that just shoots out air to clear away rubbish in your teeth, that kind of sound only for a second. Honestly sounds like *sssss.* I took my tower apart, I kept testing on where that sound was coming from and im 95% sure its coming from the power supply box at the top. I know some of you might say "hey make sure everything is plugged in properly to motherboard, etc, etc" but I didnt touch my computer before I went out, and it was working fine. I dont know whats wrong.

I have some very important files on my computer that are needed for school, basically for a scholarship and if I dont have it soon, I can kiss that scholarship goodbye and probably wont ever get another chance to get it.

ANY help is much appreciated.
 
your powersupply has most likely blown, can be caused by anything such as a power surge, or wear and tear.
If you are unlicky then it could have taken out any number of other compnents when it went. But most likely it just need replacing and your hdd should be fine

Surely a Qualified Microsoft Technical Support Worker should know that any hissing from electronics such as a power supply generally means that a piece of hard ware has crashed. :D Oh well.

It will most likely be caused by a Power Supply Problem.

A New Power Supply Might Be In Order.

The hissing sound sounds as though a fan inside your power supply has disconnected itself from its bearings, either that, or there is a short in the line.

What are the Specs of your Computer?

And most importantly.

Your Power Supply/

-Brand
-Watt's
-How long you have had it for.

Before i suggest a brand new power supply.

Do you have a Spare computer with a power supply, That you can swap.

remember: POWER SUPPLYS ARE NOT HOT SWAPPABLE. :D

Im not in school, thats why I was trying to get a scholarship to get into school, lol. And when I was working for microsoft tech support it wasnt anything to do with putting a computer together or any parts or anything, it was tech support for microsoft MSN premium software. So if any of you have it and have problems with msn premium let me know I can help you out.

Computer Specs:
P4 2.4
512 mb ram DDR
80 gb hd
ASUS A7N8X-X Motherboard
GeForce FX 5600

had the computer about, 3 years.

Power supply is:
Tsunami, 300 Watt
Model: LC-A300ATXP4

Hope this helps.
oh yeah and no I wish I had another computer to swap power supplies

Never heard of the brand.. well an cheap PSU from ebay or so should do it :D I got one for $28 bucks, 600W, runs my E4300 and P4 well :D
 
^^^yeah I guess theres no easy fix, might have to just get a new one.
I wont lose any files from my computer right...if I replace it

Just think of what a power supply does :P. No you won't lose anything.

Although I would try to find another PSU to try before you buy a new one, because hissing could be caused by the mobo starting up and short circuiting. I've seen it happen so, try to find exactly where the hissing is coming from and thats probably your problem.

Most likely not, but a dieing psu can cause all sorts of problem. There is no component that is 100% safe.

again it most likely it will be fine, but ive seen a blown psu take out every possible component at some point.
