Oblivion? Expansions?

This is a mmorpg right? I'm looking for a new game to play. I was talking to this guy at school said Oblivion was a good game. I dunno what to get? Shivering Isles? Knights of the Nine? Can someone explain?

Oblivion is not an MMORPG. It's a single player RPG and has no multiplayer. I think you should be able to find Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, and Shivering Isles in a bundle somewhere. Also, the game is open ended so you can do whatever you want. It has a ton of quests so the game won't end any time soon. I highly recommend getting it.

they are both expansions for the regular game, Knights of the Nine adds one large quest in the same area as the regular game while Shivering Isles adds an entire new world with a main quest and many smaller quests plus items. They are both fun but Shivering Isles contains much more.

Nah, no turn based fighting, no linear gameplay ;) At the beginning you design your character, from his race and appearance to his individual strengths, and abilities. Magic, stealth, fighting, or a mix or any, it's up to you. It defines the way you face combat in the game, more on that in a sec. What then happens is you are placed in a 16x16 square mile map, and pointed in the direction of the main quest. You don't need to do that, ever if you don't want to. There are hundreds of side quest all acrossed the land as well as, caves, ruins, town, villages, camps, etc, with people, monsters, bandits, quests all in between. Fighting takes place either 1st or 3rd person, depending on preference, though most people will agree 1st person is the way to go. Depending on how you designed your character, you will fight differently. Magic; fireballs, lightning blasts, charming people to fight beside you, summoning monsters as well. Stealth; daggers, bows, hiding, stealing, extra damage on unaware strikes, etc. Combat; bash their heads in with longswords, claymores, axes, hammers, clubs whatever. You could also shield up... if you want.

Ok I admit my writing skills are sorely lacking. Watch this Oblivion GT review instead.

After watching half the trailer and it needing to buffer, I am wondering if this game is for me..

Should've switched to the Standard def version ;)

It really is an incredible game, Ever play Morrowind? Well, probably not. There are usually 2 types of people outspoken about this game. Those that love it for it's sheer openness, character customization, longevity and replayability, incredible graphics, blah. And those that find it boring or confusing. If you like a game like GTA just for it's freedom (even if not the genre itself, killing old ladies, grinding a prostitute in a car to regain health, etc) then you'll like this. RPG fans normally love it too.

I'd give it a try, it's cheap these days. buy from an EB games and you can return it opened, no question asked for a full refund, if you find you don't like it.

I have it for Xbox 360 and have around 120 hours clocked in on it, without expansions. If you are considering buying it for PC, buy it alone first, then get expansions if you like it, unless of course there is a cheaper or more efficient bundle set. The base game alone has about 30 hours of main quest line, another 30 or so in side quests, and infinite replayability. this is coming from an RPG fan, though, so you'll have to see if you like it.

I would rather buy a game like this for the 360 so I can still use my pc while I play. I would be too busy doing other stuff on my pc to play it on it.

Then you won't like it. Hmm. Halo 3? Console, i know.. World in conflict just came out, it's a neo RTS game. No base building\boring stuff just pick a deployment spot on the map, buy units, earn Command points, and nuke or fuel-air bomb their asses!

Google for the demo and you can try it out for free beforehand. I've tried the demo, so has Intelcrazy, and we both seem to like the game. Whether it's your cup of tea or not...

Edit: Halo 3 then.

I don't like Halo lol, plus I forgot to mention I don't own a 360. What I meant is IF I had one, I would rather get a single player game for console not pc. I'll check out this World in Conflict game.

I want something online multiplayer. I get very bored with single player pc games.

Believe me and the other guys, you will not get bored with this game, it is kickass, as long as your PC can run it (which certainly does ;-) and you are set to go, you can do a bunch of different things in the in-game world....

:) Have fun

now world in conflict, thats a game i am going to buy for SURE im not sure if ill use the online multiplayer, but the demo was fantastic

sup man, I just started playing this game, although I have also played the eariler game: morrowind. Oblivion is one of those few rare games that everybody loves, and is a general stand out classic. I am yet to come across someone who doesn't like it. gamespot have rated it at 9.3, which places it amongst the likes of GTA, diablo and civ 4 - all classics in their own right.

there is a Game Of The Year (GOTY) version with all the expansions etc plus some mods coming out soon. so I would incredibly very highly reccomend you getting that. the PC version will be much better both in interfacing with the game (controls easier) plus with the massivly awesome graphics and amount of mods etc that you can get for this game. the only downside to this game is that u'll find yourself chewinig through time like it wasn't there!!!! make sure you have a good system!!! it'll tax it like the government taxes me!!!

but seriously, this game will be as much fun as a multipllayer (if not as fast paced)

if you really looking for a multiplayer/mmorpg, look at lord of the rings online or World of warcraft or if you want fast FPS the battlefield series is good

EVE-Online provides a rewarding MMORPG experience, although it may be slightly on the technical/hard-to-learn side. As for Oblivion, if you go on the forums it almost makes you feel like its online anyway (the amount of things that get posted there is enormous).

Personally I don't like many MMORPG's because most of them have monthly subscription fees, which make it hardly worth it.

If you like FPS games then you could go for the new Quake Wars, or perhaps the free to download America's Army (which might I say, is an excellent game).

EDIT: Btw, I own Oblivion + all of the expansions, feel free to ask me about it if you like.

It's like an FPS game but with swords, magic, and bows and arrows. Plus it's very free-form. If you don't buy it because it isn't online you're foolish.

I'm looking for something I can explore at my own pace. Not have to worry about leveling up so much and dying all the time. Something online without monthly subscription.

Why is EVE-Online so difficult?
