Alright should i go with Vista or XP, i want it to run games. Is there a 64 bit Xp? I want the computer to last 4-5 yrs, so will Xp still be the "IN" Operating syatem? And any viwes on either one would be helpful. Also what one do you have any whay that one and not the other operating syatem.

Thanks

Dan

ok, you are gonna hear arguments for both sides, but heres my 2 cents

I would go with XP, and I would stick with the 32 bit home edition for 80 bucks off newegg

1) No need for 64 bit to play games, and you only need 2 gigs ram
2) XP has way more support right now than Vista 32 or 64 bit
3) SP3 may be enabling DX10
4) Support for XP will last until 2014

Unless you absolutely must have DX10, then just stick with XP 32 bit, trust me

That's definitely what I suggest :-)

You may want other people's opinions if you're still debating Vista, but yeah that's my two cents

vista is better, in all ways , plus the SP1 is coming out soon for vista, so all ur troubles with be fixed, not saying i have any

how is it better

it has less support
constant updates
more confusing submenus

vista doesnt get to the point how xp does, it lillydaddys too much

the ONLY good thing I see is DX10, which may be supplied in XP SP3 anyways

lmao name at least five things that he will be using that vista doesnt support... the submenus, after you get used to them, are just as simple and very easy to navigate... the constant updates ensure me that i am as up-to-date as possible and they are completely in the background, i never press any buttons, and they are at a low speed so they dont take up any of my broadband, so i commonly play AOEIII online while it upgrades

nice try though ;)

and THIS is for all the conspiracy theorists who say vista needs at least 2GB to run well!!!

that there is quicktime playing a video (hidden atm) a CAD software system examining a part, AOEIII in the middle of a game, firefox open with about eight tabs, WMP blaring, and avast on (not a resource hog but deserves to be listed... OH and AOE was still getting good frame rates right there, above 40 minimum on the rig in my sig with no overclocks whatsoever, i turned them down just for this...

:P

Vista rocks, it uses it resources better and is faster than XP... most people that "hate" vista used it for one day before they got used to it and learn their way around.

Currently, you do not need more than 2 GB to run Vista. A 32 bit OS will be fine for the author of this thread.

Vista or XP? IMO, that's a matter of personal preference - no longer a matter of incompatability.

i see what you mean mep, but i might suggest a 64 bit OS though, because of 32 bits lack of higher ram support :/

True. In the near future, I suspect, high performance gaming, for example, will require more than 2GB. If Bajadan236 plans on keeping the OS for a long time (+ 2 yrs.), 64 bit may not be a bad idea. It wouldn't hurt.

yeah, and as thatguy16 pointed out (i think it was him) sp1 will soon be coming out that will fix most of the bugs people are seeing. (personally i havent ever seen one, everything just kinda works. its like a mac without the suckiness!!!)

woo, got a little out of hand there guys :), anyway thanks for the info. I pretty much just want the OS to run and not break down, i rly could care less about "Fancy" add ons that vista dose, im jsut concerend that i will have a hard time installing vista cuz this is my 1st "real" build. I say real cuz i have built comps along time ago ( lol 3 yrs) and im jsut concerend about Installing S*** on my comp, i will have no prob building but i just dont want to pay xxx ( think its $179.99) on vista when i no Xp will work for olny $89.99. So i dont know what one i want to do beacause im familliar with Xp, and Vista is like a whole new world. So what do you guys truly think about Vista to a new builder. I mean what " IF " (knock on wood) Something goes wrong, i have no idea what to do. i mean im "new" to computer hardware. So just give me a noob reconmandation to which OS to use. If it matters im running GeForce 8800ultra, Gygabyte MB p135, Intel q6600. So please help a noob out :)

Thanks

Dan
