AMD vs INTEL for gaming

Hello!

I heard a few friend of mine said that AMD's are better than INTEL when it comes to gaming. Is it true or just myth?..ehe.. Coz i'm leaning more towards intel but this thing keep bugging me..

Unfortunately, Intel are better.

+1

It's funny that you say "unfortunately" because' I would have said the exact same thing.

You're friend is wrong, AMD used to be better at gaming back in 2005, but now Intel is doing a lot better. At the time of writing, the only reason I would recommend an AMD CPU would be if you already have an AMD Motherboard, and don't want to buy a new one.

The reason for the unfortunately is because I am a die hard AMD fan, and when I didn't have enough for an Intel build back in October.

amd used to be the best for gaming, at least until the pentium D came out (i think they started winning then...) then the core2duos came outta left field and pwnd peoples faces.

The Athlon 64's were still better then the Pentium D's, Intel really pulled ahead with the Core 2 Duo's.

AMD is for people that are so loyal to a brand that they refuse to go with something else, even when it is undeniable that the product is clearly inferior.

True. If you are a AMD lover or a guy who doesn't want to pay money for a motherboard, then it is recommended that you buy a AMD CPU :)

AMD chips are better for a gaming system while Intel lean better for systems using other types of programs other than gaming. Check out the "AMD vs Intel" section in the CPU part of this forum...

No...currently, Intel > AMD with their C2D's and QX. Intel's new chips generally overclock better, easier and run cooler than AMD's offerings. To that end, 3D performance bottleneck is eliminated in some finely-tuned Intel systems while even the high-end AMD CPU's still suffer. Hell, even the X2 5000+ BE with 65nm core still can't get past 3.3GHz without a decent water cooling kit.

AMD has many great ideas but Intel CAN and DO incorporate those ideas then make them better and release way ahead of AMD.

The only area AMD still takes the crown is server CPU's. AMD's direct connect architecture ensures the most stable operations in servers.

Perhaps next time look at the date that AMD vs Intel was written before posting JLV2k5
It was written in 2005 and last time I checked we're in 2007, nearly 2008

It doesn't look like AMD is going to be king anytime soon. Intel is about to release the next generation of mainstream 45nm processors which are supposed to be BA. AMD has released a few things but their performance is just nothing compared to Intels Core processors.

I am not a fanboy of anything (except for nVidia :D). I just want to go with what has the best price/performance ratio at the time of the build. I have owned, I would like to say 3 different complete computers. The first was an Intel Pentium 4 540J, second was the AMD Athlon 64 3500+, third is the one currently in my sig, the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600.

I have been more than happy with my 5600, but come january / early february im getting a 8400 + X38.

Im no fanboy by any means :P
