Questionably Stupid Cooling Project

heya guys....i thought of this while i was bundling up to go outside yesterday.....what do you think would happen if i put my case outside in the cold? would it kill any components or would my system just get really cold?
my main concern is condensation, which can be fixed with a simple box of baking soda in the case....or so i think.
whatya think?

Condensation won’t be a problem unless you have some warm, humid air going to the computer. Otherwise the cold air is already dehumidified (see psychrometrics for more of an explanation). The only things that could pose a problem at very low temperatures are mechanical devices like the hard drives.

rain might not be so good for it though :)

So you build a little computer umbrella...

=D

Huh! Woah! Stoke of genius there! :P

Yeah man... you don't gotta tell me. Pure genius! :D It'd probably work until the wind blows, but that's what side umbrellas are for!

That's right... side umbrellas, you read right.

Or you could just throw it in a bag...

No and if you do it i hope your stuff gets rained on, to tech you not to be so stupid, but if you mounted it in an enclosure, it could be quite nice

Put it in your freezer. do it.

ROFL.

And though I know the plastic bag was a joke, condensation would become an issue as the heat would be trapped inside.

While I would *never* put it outside exposed to the elements, I would consider putting it in my screened-in, roofed Florida room - but only back in the corner where nothing short of a flood wound get it wet. Or perhaps in my garage (no heat yet). Damn, I'm half-considering doing that on the next really cold day and check it out :)

wouldn't it be better to just get some watercooling and throw your radiator(s) out in the cold or in the freezer or something? :P

i actually thought of drilling a hole into my bathroom and throwing some radiators with watercooling into my "hot" tub

Yeh i saw a guy run his water cooled rig with huge copper pipes going out of his house, running around his garden and back inside.

Yes, heat may build up, but where is the water vapor coming from?
