PC Running 24/7

Im running my standard (not server type) computer 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for almost a month now and no problems so far. My question is that will there be any future problems regarding this?

CPU Specs:
Athlon X2 4200+
ECS Motherboard
2GB Transcend RAM
512mb ATI Radeon
80GB Western Digital HD

My cooling system is good so no problems with heat. I just want to ask if there will be increased risk of wear and tear by running my CPU 24/7.

Your answers will be greately appreciated. Thank you in advance

i ran my office desktop for more than 2 months straight without shutting down (excluding the restart for windows update).
It all depends on the environment you're in.
mine is air conditioned to it will take a (long) while for my supply to die

Power Supply might die.

Any component might die. HDDs, fans (or any mechanical components for that matter) are more likely to die when left constantly running. But I wouldn't say that there's any risks in running the comp 24/7, the thing I'd be most worried about would be the electricity bill.

You could switch it to sleep mode when you dont use it. This way you can save power and continue your work fast. However, i'd recommend some of theese for backup power if the electricity falls.

From what I have heard its actually better to leave it running all the time, because when you first turn on you computer a shock goes into all of the components.

Most components are rated for at least 100,000 hours, some hard drives are rated at 1 million hours so the chance of it dying soon is pretty slim. We have several desktop PC"s running as servers at the schools I work at, and they've been up for years without any issue.

I was thinking of creating a NAS server out of my old computer and run it 24/7. But, I am concerned over my energy bill. Of course, Walmart sells a Everex PC that has a more energy efficient power supply. That is good to know that every time you start it up it brings a shock to all of the components. Maybe I should start leaving my computer on all the time. Maybe I will just turn it off at night.

This is the umpteenth thread I've seen on this throughout my time here. And there really has never been a final decision, both sides have had really good points and arguments, but my opinion is that it's up to the individual, if you believe the power up, power down hurts the components than by all means leave it on 24/7 (my computer has been running almost 24/7 for over a year) If you want (slightly) lower power bills, and are worried about damaging components by leaving it on all the time than turn it off at night. However I would recommend restarting it every once in a while it clears the ram, which is always nice.
