RAM upgrade...

I have a PC with a Gigabyte P35-DS3R and currently 2GB of G. Skill RAM. I would like to upgrade to 4GB. But the 2GB set of G. Skill RAM for it is like $90 when a set of 4GB Corsair XMS2 sticks is $70. What should I go with? I know XMS2 sticks aren't as high quality as they used to be...

Thanks

What operating system do you have?
I made the mistake and got 32bit Vista, so I can only use 3.49GB of my RAM. If you have 64bit Vista, then go ahead and get the Corsair- it is still high quality stuff.

I'd personally choose Corsair over g.Skill any day.

And yeah, if you're on a 32-bit OS make sure to keep in mind the addressing limitations of the x86 architecture; under 32-bit OS, it's simply not mathematically possible to see all 4GB of the memory. This will also depend on how much memory is being addressed by Windows by your other hardware, ie. graphics card, etc.

I am actually debating whether or not to upgrade to 4GB on my system. I feel like 2GB of RAM is bottlenecking me in WAR, but it really almost feels like a waste to buy two more gigs of RAM, only to see a fraction of it.

I think I've come to the conclusion, however, that every extra bit of memory helps.

It all comes down to what you're using your system for---I've gotten by just fine on XP for the last 2.5 years with the system I have now. WAR is the first application that's made me even consider an upgrade since I've built this rig.

It's a 64-bit Vista machine... I had all this planned out for the future when I built this machine. I just didn't choose an upgrade brand.

I'd personally choose Corsair over g.Skill any day.

You wouldn't if you knew how Corsair screwed XMS2 buyers a while back. The XMS2 originally used high-quality Micron D9 chips then to make a better profit they switched out to the cheaper ProMOS chips. The Micron D9 overclocks way better than the ProMOS. People commonly associate ProMOS with A-Data and G. Skill, not true. It's the same as with any other manufacturer, the low-end models obviously have the ProMOS and then the high-end have the D9's.

Are Ballistix Tracers any good?

Thanks
