i hate to throw a spanner in the works of what seems like a fairly obvious post, ie. an i7 processor if you are on about a home system/mainstream system, but could some please explain to me why

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Inte...e-S775-32-GHz-1600MHz-12MB-L2-Cache-8x-Retail

is more expensive than

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Inte...ocket-1366-(B)-Nehalem-32GHz-Cache-8MB-Retail

and it isn't just there, same story just about everywhere you go.

Is it that the first is better than the i7 even though the i7 has the uber awesomely cool and better cache technology?

And could i also say, i would not say the best processor (singular) i would say the best processors. I would sooner have a couple, or few, intel xeon processors (plural) on an eatx board

i heard that for example an athlon x2 5600 OCed from 2.8 to 3.2 will be inferior in performance than the 6400 that is 3.2 stock

No if your talking about Windsor cores, the performance will almost be the same, the 5600 might even out do it by a tab, because you will have to run its bus higher, but it doesnt really help much with a AMD. Unless you talking about a E6400, but it is at 2.13ghz stock.
