You'll get better performance in gaming from a CRT, because of the higher refresh rates. They don't however make widescreen CRTs, and I don't even think they make new CRTs anymore. I had an 18" old Sony CRT for gaming, but my LG 22" was much prettier, which made up for the performance downgrade in gaming.
Just make sure you find one with a somewhat low refresh rate and you'll be fine.
Not sure about Dell monitors, but personally I steer clear of anything with the Dell logo on it.

Pretty hard to beat the ASUS monitors for the money. ASUS is working on building its monitor business and they have them priced right. I have an ASUS 24" and it is outstanding.

When compared to the Dell ultrasharp 2408 how do these compare?
The asus=Better The dell has lower brightness, and lower response time(6ms GTG, the asus is 2ms GTG and 5ms BTB)

Yep, the asus monitors are amazing, i have recommended them to alot of people, and more than likely im going to be getting an asus monitor to replace my current samsung(Not 100% sure yet, as the samsung i was looking at also has a tv tuner and 2 hdmi built in, but the asus has same specs minus tuner and just 1 hdmi for nearly $100 less).

Anyone have pictures / videos of Asus monitors? I looked in my local computer stores and none of them carry Asus.

Well, thats somewhat of a shame, as the asus monitors are really great. Im not sure you would be able to tell the video quality just by a video or picture. But if you read the reviews they are all excellent;)

Even though I'm in the computer industry and sell computer products, I keep it away from my recreational forum posts. Leave your email address and I'll send you a URL. I'd be happy to fix you up with either an ASUS 24" or 26" at the right price. You can get the 26" way under your budget.
