What thermal paste is the best?

Heard that Shin-Etsu paste is soppose to be real good,but its quite hard to come by.

I use either Artic Silver 5, or MX-2.

I also have some paste made by Asus,ive not tried it yet.

Shin-Estu is marketed under the masscool brand here in the states.

It appears, that once you include the drying/curing time, as5 and Shin-Etsu perform the best, but i like ocz freeze and tx-2 for its no cure time.

There is not a big difference in thermal paster, people thing one is better than the other, but overall they are all the same, Company's are just making money of of us idiots thinking thermal paster makes a difference.

THats not true, compare silicone and as5 for example, on just the testing i did, before the as5 even had its 200hr cure time i saw a 12c difference(on air). On stock coolers, i have seen 5-6c difference on a Q8200 stock vs as5, same with a pentium D.

I use artic silver, just cause that is what everyone at the datacenter swears by. with my q9400 and the stock cpu fan those intels come with my cpu is running at 78F right now. motherboard reports 98F for a comparison of temp in the case..

The best paste depends on the heatsink. Some HSF manufacturers recommend ] not using certain pastes that might impede or corrode the heatsink. Also, heatsinks with heatpipes directly contacting the CPU are recommended using thicker pastes while smooth base heatsinks are recommended using thinner pastes. Bottom-line; OCZ for heatpipe bases; AS5 for smooth bases; both you can't go wrong with.
