New Computer

Hey I am new to the whole buying parts and building my own computer but I know it's a lot cheaper then buying a pre built one.

I need some help picking out the right parts that could last me a good amount of years without needing new ones. My limit is $1000 for my new computer and i'm not that good when it comes to finding good parts that can be compatable with eachother so if anyone could give me a hand and reply with a list of parts I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm mainly building this computer for gaming purposes and I would hopefully like to run all my games on High Quality for once. (Ex. CoD4/WaW, CSS, Aion, etc.)

Do you need a monitor, mouse and/or keyboard?

I have 3 changes to this, and it is really your preference as the above will do just fine, but this gets you a little more power and closer to the $1000 mark.

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V
This will give you an extra 100 watts of power, since the graphics card and the CPU I recommend will suck some power.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz
Quad-core 3.2 GHz.....

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 ]
This RAM has slightly better timings than the RAM suggested above.

Either setup would work. It really depends on how much you truly want to put into it.

I,ve used all kinds of G Skill DDR3 and never had a problem with it, plus I know alot here has used it. Where did you hear that at? Not talking about some dude on a fourm that didnt like it or newegg reviews.

I personally I have had 3 orders of G-Skill DDR3 fail on me. My friend just put 8GB's of rip jaw in his new i5 build and 3 of the sticks where DOA. IIRC bomber mentioned something about that G-Skills quality for DDR3 went down hill.

3 out of how many??

I'm using G-Skill DDR3 and not having any problems. Their Cust service looks like they'll take care of you if you have any problems from what I've read in the Newegg reviews too.

Would it hurt for someone not to go for DDR3, and settle down for DDR2? (and still wish to play the latest games, like GTA IV)

Also, what's up with AMD and Radeon? Are they better than Intel and GeForce accordingly? Lastly, I presume the OS OEM costs that much because it has a free W7 upgrade coupon, otherwise it's too damn expensive for an OEM.

DDR2 is still good and will not stop you from playing newer games. AMD is been know to perform better in games. Even though CPU's like the i5 and i7 crush the best Phenom II some people believe(my self included) that AMD can easily out perform Intel when it comes to gaming. ATI has the best bang for your buck you get more out of your money. Since the release of the 5870 Nvidia is going to have to come up with something spectacular and cheap to out preform ATI. Also that is the regular price of the OS the windows 7 coupon is basically free. The cheapest OS is $90 which is XP which I don't recommend. Operating systems do cost a lot but with out it the hard ware is useless. You can use Linux(which is free) but Linux is not gamer friendly and there are is a very limited number of games that will work for Linux.

He was referring to OCZ.

I thought he said G-Skill. Like I said I have had bad experience with G-Skill's DDR3 RAM but it is probably just streak of bad luck.

Well I have never hardly ever had any problems with G Skill, DDR2 or DDR3.

Yeah they have life time warranty and will replace it without any trouble.

He had 4 stick of 2GB 3 of the sticks was DOA. There was no need for me to call G-Skill newegg refunded my money with no problems.

Like I said it was probably just a streak of bad luck for me. I have been using Mushkin in my builds here lately and some OCZ which has been pretty good.

I have built quite a few computers in my 12 years of IT experience. You don't really have to worry about compatibility as long as you get the correct processor and memory for the motherboard.

Asus motherboards are the best for speed and stability. I also like the AMD Phenom II procs. ATI Radeon graphics cards are great and are reasonably priced.
