i've used other flavors linux had many issues with them from compatability to missing software all together. this ubuntu works great! i even have all me files etc on a external b4 i installed

microsoft can go and stick it where the sun don't shine in my opinion.....

I agree, if you need just a basic operating system to browse the web, check your email, and watch Youtube, Ubuntu is great.

If all you need is a bloated operating system to spend hundreds of dollars on, hundreds of hours updating and maintaining, hundreds of (more) hours keeping free of viruses and most of your time playing games and alienating your friends with, Windows is great

Pirated Vista and pre-installed Vista don't count. If you haven't updated Vista, you should.. you're putting your computer at risk by not updating it (Ubuntu, on the other hand, is virtually never at risk because of failure to update it), having 'like no viruses' isn't none. If you get just one, you've had more than me.

Oh, and friends with pocket protectors don't count ;)

I don't have pirated vista my computer is really never at risk due to my shitty bandwidth so i don't really download anything lol xD ubuntu is fun to mess with like at school i boot off live disk which is fun!

If i got to choose between ubuntu and windows i would go windows hand down

You can contribute that choice to never 'being at risk' or having viruses. I guarantee you wouldn't feel this way after a few attacks and some nasty spyware streaming your private information to a remote server :good:

I'm sure the vast majority of users here won't have had to deal with these issues, but those same users have antivirus and antispyware hogging resources in the background at all times. So what, just buy more RAM and a better CPU, right? Those are added costs that I don't have to deal with.

I'll agree to disagree here, being as you've never fully experienced Ubuntu, and possibly Linux in general.

Lol, struck a nerve eh?

Sounds like OS envy. :D

Is this 'OS envy' something that exists, or did you make it up in your nerd-cave in your parent's basement?

I can't imagine any possible way for me to envy someone for something I already own. I have 4 legitimate Windows licenses: 2 Vista Home Premium licenses, 1 Vista Home Basic license and 1 XP Professional license.
My wife runs XP on her Gateway netbook, I have an inactive Vista Home Premium partition on my laptop and our desktops have sat unused for months, both of which use the final two licenses.

How would you know where we're from?

Anyway, I simply stated that Ubuntu is a great basic OS and someone got defensive and thought I was bashing it, and decided to get personal.

You've missed the point entirely. Mull it over for a few days and come back, hopefully then you'll see that this isn't personal, short of the nerd-cave comment.. because wow, you really do spend too much time here.
