Uninstall GRUB bootloader

I have been trying to uninstall the GRUB boot loader that installs itself when I tried a dual-boot system running Linux/XP. I tried to format the partition with Linux on it, but that just caused a GRUB Error 22. I re-installed the linux OS and that fixed the issue for now.
The problem is, I want to get rid of the linux partition entirely and merge the 2 partitions back to my original config. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO USE A DISC TO RUN FIXMBR OR FIXBOOT. There has got to be another way to get rid of it! Any help would be great!

Thanks!!

you need to wipe the MBR and you can not do that when booted from the drive. You have little choice, but to boot off of some sort of disk and delete it.

www.bootdisk.com

has free DOS disks, you can boot from DOS and just do fdisk /mbr and it will wipe GRUB out. Also the disk you used to install GRUB should also have a utility to wipe out the MBR.

Ok you have linux and xp dual booted? Boot into windows xp, install easyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 use that to reinstall the windows xp boot loader, restart, use a partition program to extend your C: windows xp partition to take up the empty space.

Nice try.... The program (easyBCD) tells me when I run it that I must have vista installed on the machine for it to work... will not work for me...

May I ask why you don't want to use fixmbr? The partition and MBR are typically separate, so most formats would just leave it alone. You really need to do a fixmbr or do a complete low-level-format(zero write) to clean it out.

If you have a clean install on there now, I'd personally make an image of your main partition, LLF, repartition to one large drive, then reload the image.
