Skype alerts are on speakers when I use headsets

When I use my headset on my laptop, HP Pavillion DV5-1095, and I get alerts from Skype, the sound comes from the speakers on the laptop, not from my headset. All other sounds from right before until right after the alert are also on the main speakers.

It happened after I installed win7 (32 bit). I have tried to update the drivers, but I havent fixed it yet.

Any ideas?

Are there any items remaining in device manager that require a driver to be installed? Any unknown or pci devices listed?

It will stick out like a sore thumb. You will see items with a yellow question mark on it or you will see something say pci device or unknown device.

It sounds like a driver issue - i had this issue with my laptop when i installed windows 7. I installed the driver it was fine.... it may not show up in the device manager..

I would look at the manufacturer's website and download all of the drivers for your computer.

That your speakers ring is normal with Skype. You just need to set the preference for ringing and alerts to use which device you want. I believe Skype defaults this setting to "Ring on all devices".

As for all other sound swapping in and out from your headset (if that is what you are describing), that does sound like a driver/incompatibility issue. Check the sound chip manufacturer's website aside from HP's for alternate drivers. Are you running the latest version of Skype, too? Could simply be a bug with Skype.

Nope, it still goes on speakers while using headset. But I think it only happens when I play music or video also.
