hello everyone!
ok so i have this dfi motherboard dk 790fxb-m2rsh (its in my sig)
i have never flashed the bios before... and i dont really trust any other
flashing software... i just cleared the cmos n everything SHOULD be back to its
stock/rated states
the problem is that i dont know how to flash it using a usb!
now ive seen online the hp thing n ive tried it... but it tells me i have no valid dos files...
then i tired the other trick where you do the cmd prompt but the directions tell you how to copy a downloaded windows 7 file n then put it on the flash drive...
ive read on other forums that dfi boards are "picky"
anyone got any ideas???
the bios files consist of three types...
AUTOEXEC.BAT
AWDFLASH.EXE
R7SDA08.BIN

Isn't there a flash program in the bios of the board?
On my (fairly old) Asus board, I jsut have to put the bios files on a USB stick, go into the bios when I restart the pc, and go to the bios flashing menu.
(never had a DFI board, In the next pc i'm going to build I wanted to put one into tough.)

ps: is the title a reference to Flash Gordon by any chanse? :p

well ive never had a problem with the board... its like an overclockers wet dream! but im trying to figure out how to flash the bios, and all the software keeps giving me error messages, which is why im looking for like a way to do this the old fashioned way... since im running a 64bit version of windows 7 some other software wont work... unless i was using xp... i know there is a compatibility thing but i dont wanna use it when flashing my bios... and yes! the title is in reference to flash gordon hahahaha

I would never ever flash a bios using a program running in the OS. always one of those programs that runs before the OS actually starts.

yeah you shouldnt flash the bios through the os and if you have a software issue on the os i would say that you probably wont need to update the bios, usaully this is only recommended as a last resort.
what exactly is the problem your having

there is no real problem with it.... i just wanted to start preparing for a new am3 proc. (phenom II 965) it needs a bios update for the mobo to support am3... but ive just kinda given up on it... a buddy of mine said that i may be missing a dos file of some kind...

Do it the old fashon way, install a floppy drive, create a dos bootable disk with new bios and change bios boot sequence to boot from floppy first. Be carefull!!

Most motherboards have a built in flashing utility. First of all, download the latest BIOS file for your board (should be a .bin file) and stick it on to an empty USB drive.

Then reboot with the sub stick in and go into your bios, look for the flashing options (on my asus board it's called E.Z Flash 2) and then select flash from USB or removable device. Then you select the bios file, confirm, and let it do it's business.

If I remember correctly, DFI uses the Diamond Flash Image utility, but that could be irelevant to the newer boards. I wouldn't flash a BIOS though if all is running fine.

Good luck fitting BIOS images from today on an old "floppy" drive :p
