Wireless needed for desktop

I have a home built desktop running windows 7 64 bit.

Im looking for a wireless card that runs on the operating system fine. Ive searched for a bunch on newegg, but a lot seem to have issues with windows 7 64 bit. Is there anything besides a wireless card that I could use to pick upa wireless signal?

Price isn't a concern too much, so just link whatever you have in mind.

Note: Before purchasing it, make sure you have a spare PCI slot.

Pros: *just built a PC for my daughter and added this card for wireless capability.
*I'm using Win7 64 bit and have had zero issues on three system builds. Win7 automatically finds drivers, loads them, and I only have to enter the security key from my router.
*I get the same throughput as connected to an ethernet cable when I'm within 30-40 ft of router. Farthest PC is a little over 40ft through 3 walls and signal degrades to about 70% of max but still plenty for internet surfing and Netflix loading.
*I prefer the antenna on a cable over the ones stuck on the card as I'm able to get better reception by placing it on the desk.
Cons: none really. Maybe the cable could be a tad longer.
Other Thoughts: Highly recommended!

Note: This isn't wireless n- make sure you get a N card if you need it.

do I need wireless N? thought lower end cards b/g were compatible with pretty much anything, just slower?

A B/G/N card should work with any B/G/N router as long as the router puts out the correct signal. It is possible to set an N router to only use N signals. Now A is rather rare, but there are very few cards that are only A.

well if I have a N router, will a b/g wireless card still work?

and also, might sound dumb, but could I use a router as a wireless card, or is there anything other than wireless cards to get a signal?? (just because most wiresless cards ive seen are cheap and I play games online a lot and its no fun getting dropped from a connection, especially since ill be down stairs while the router is up stairs.

Hi,
Unlike laptops, desktops are considered with several slots for expansion cards, and wireless adapters are, indeed, available as expansion cards. In general, for a permanent installation, this is probably my first choice.

I agree with you, I am looking for a permanent solution to my desktop.

The one bkribbs linked you to from newegg is very good. It gets very good reception even with the router 1 floor below the wireless adapter. I highly recommend it.
