AVG doens't contain a software firewall. Just use the firewall in the OS and if your plugged/wired to a router then make sure the firewalls are enabled.

AVG is a form of internet security and together with the firewall/s your good to go.

Yes he's saying to use the windows firewall.
A better option than widows firewall would be using Online armor, Comodo firewall with Defence+, pc tools firewall, or outpost.

A good free setup would be avast with pc tools firewall.
Alongside your AV and firewall run malwarebytes and/or Super anti spyware as your on demand scanner.

You serious?

To be honest I have never run a third party firewall software alongside my AV software. I just use the firewall built in Windows.

If you connect to a Router then check if it has built-in firewalls.

I use Avast! Home Edition with the firewall activated in W7. Thats it.

Malwarebytes is a great utility to use, if/when you need to.

i use Kaspersky internet security that has a firewall. also windows 7 pro and xp pro firewall is on. One thing though.
Windows firewall protects inbound only. not out. others protect both ways. Comodo also works well. I read somewhere you can control and adjust bandwidth. would be a handy feature if ya need it.
the free version works fine.
