Spybot refuses to fully immunize???

When I try to immunize with my Spybot, I get this: "This action may not be performed completely since you are not an administrator. If you want this performed for all users, please run this application elevated as an administrator."

I checked on the internet, found instructions: right click on Spybot and click on Run as Administrator. But...after doing it, nothing has changed!

I also note that this is occurring with Vista, but I do not have Vista. I have Windows 7.

Help! I want to immunize but it's not working.

I wouldn't be overly concerned. All the immunization does, AFAIK, is to edit your hosts file, changing a bunch of sites to 127.0.0.1, so it tries that address instead of the actual address.

As spybot is not one of the stronger malware removal tools out there today I recommend Malwarebytes. Its safe, effective and best of all free. Once you post the logs we can see if there are issues with your system which spybot is unable to deal with or even unable to detect. Or, the issue may be something else entirely. But a good starting point is with the instructions below. Just make sure to run everything as ADMINISTRATOR.

---

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware HERE or HERE and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    o and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from HERE

Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log and a detailed description of the problems you are experiencing.

Thats why there is another program called Superantispyware which is much better than spybot as well.
