Which Monitor is Better?

The Asus has a much higher contrast ratio with a 2ms response time but the ViewSonic only has a 1,200:1 ratio with a 1ms response time.

1ms in response time isn't going to be noticeable but I think you'd have better picture quality with the Asus and it's higher contrast ratio, both have the same resolution.

I think both brands are good.
I like the features of the Viewsonic even tho it's not widescreen(if that matters). They've been around a long time and nudge the Asus a tad in quality, imo.
However,,,If your willing to go 300 + tax, you could consider something online w/free shipping and get a 27" w/LED back light. Blacker blacks, whiter whites, the colors are more vibrant, slimmer design, and less power. Perhaps you've considered it already. If you've been to Costco then you probly already knew that.

Even Sung is the best moniter enemy. Once better in all areas, with sales surpassing CRT monitors in 2003. Even with these improvements, the argument continues to remain CRT better suited to these graphics professionals and color uniform demanding angle.

What?

^ a spammer.

anyway, since there isn't much of a difference, i would go for the brand. Viewsonic has been around for quite some time and they are know for manufacturing good quality monitors.

Firstly:

Ignore contrast ratios and response times. They mean nothing as there are no set standards. They say 5ms or 2ms, but realistically it's about ~12ms for all current LCD screens.

Contrast ratios may be listed as 'Dynamic" which again means nothing. The numbers are inflated and useless.

Personally I'd take the Asus, the viewsonic looks like it has a flimsy stand.
