Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum. Nice to meet you all.

So...I haven't built a computer since 2004, so I'm pretty much clueless as to what's good anymore. I've looked all over newegg, and I have some ideas, but i'm still lost. Anyways, I was hoping you guys could help me out. What should I get?

I'm in school for graphic design, so I need a computer that can handle CS5, video editing, etc. I also would like to do a little bit of gaming on it. My budget is around $500-$600. So can anyone help me out please? Thank you so much!

Do you need Windows 7? If so and your a college student you can probly get it for 65$.
Do you have anything right now? Mouse/keyboard/etc?

You'll get more from AMD with that budget.

I agree, it's useful to take advantge of college deductions, I managed to get my VS and Win 7 Pro for free because my uni get it through ELMS. Secondly your budget isn't going to accomodate an overly powerful PC, so you might want to look towards the essential parts for your build - CPU, RAM PSU and GPU - based on your spec

With a $500 budget I'd say go for AMD.

I just built a AMD X3 445 + 5770 + Biostar A880G+. Incredibly fast system, no kidding.

Yeah, I already have Windows 7, keyboard, mouse, monitor, software, etc. I just need to build the desktop itself. Is there a huge difference between AMD and Intel?

Ok, Stranglehold, I took most of your advice. So, how about this build? Is everything compatible? Is 550 watts enough power? Let me know if I should replace something. Thanks so much guys!
