I have been building and programming computers for years.
(Just saying i'm not a new guy)

I did a little mod on my machine .. where I put toggle switches on the
case connected up to the power for the hard drives.

I mess with my machine a lot ... and while installing operating systems on
my second drive .. it is easier to just turn off the other drive so there
is no confusion

Anyways .. now when I access my one drive I hear a click through the
sound card !!!

It doesnt do it when I run programs or go to folders .. it only does it
when I click on the drive in the "my computer"

Yes yes .. I know someone is going to suggest that the sound card
is picking up interference from the wires going to the toggle switches.
Annnnnd That is a good possibility .. but .. I find it fascinating that it
only does it when I click on the drive .. and no other time .. lol ..

Is it a Windows notification click? I can't think why it would occur when clicking on only(?) one of the drives in My Computer. On one of my PCs I get a navigation click with IE despite all attempts to disable. I ended up replacing the offending Windows wav file with a silent wav file. Perhaps you have something similar.

Look in Control Panel, Sounds... check your Sounds, Program Events and see if anything rings a bell (so to speak!).

Thanks Nano for the suggestion ..

I miss-spoke a little. It actually does click on the other drives and folders.

So .. when I boot up from THIS side, any drive or folder I click on makes a
click through the sound card. The applications don't click.

When I boot up from the other drive .. there is no clicking .. even when
I click on the other drive.

I reinstalled the sound card. No help. It's obviously a software problem.

I looked in the sound area and there isn't a click sound assigned to anything.

going to have to do some creative searching on google/dejanews

If I find anything, I'll let you know for the knowledge bank.

I love a mystery !!!!!

You have 2 drives with 2 operating systems right? What the soundcard does depends on how it is installed on each drive. You say you reinstalled the soundcard but did you do it twice? Did you check the Sounds in both setups? You have two of everything to check other than the BIOS.

Are the drives IDE with one Master and the other Slave? SATA? Whatever the configuration, does the order of drives in the system have anything to do with the clicks?

Well .. it turned out to be something in your first suggestion.

In the default sounds list under "Explorer/Start Navigation" had the click
assigned.

thanks Nano
