Remote Desktop

Hi I was trying to setup remote desktop on win 7. Looked VERY simple.

On all tutorials they go to control pannel/allow remote access:

which brings up a Remote Tab in System properties.

On the tab I have only ONE option:

The box for "Allow Remote Assistance connetions to this computer" is checked.

But on ALL tutorials there is a REMOTE DESKTOP section below this with 3 options to choose.

Mine is not there. I looked on another win 7 laptop as well and again no option.

So then when I try to connect to the computer name it just tries for about a minute or 2 and says it cant.

Any ideas?

You need windows 7 ultimate/professional to have access to windows RDP, you can use 3rd party software such as realvnc to allow for the same functions.

Ahh I see I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

So no remote desktop at all? That's odd.

I have teamviewer but sometimes it seems a bit laggy. Is that the best available?

I use both RealVNC and TeamViewer. I mostly use RealVNC because it does not use an external server to make the connection. TeamViewer is the easiest to set up. I think any lag you are experiencing has more to do with your connection than the software.

So as far as lack of lag and stability, if I DID get the correct OS on the computer I wanted to remote control to be able to use windows RDP is that the best option? Is it going to be superior to VLC and Teamviewer?
