External Hard Drives for a LapTop

hey everyone, whats up? just joined here and i am so glad i did! great site!

i'm looking to get an external hard drive for my laptop, but my question is, for laptops, i can only buy "portable" right? i see t kinds of external hard drives, "desktop" and "portable."

at first, i thought that the "desktop" external hard drives could be used for laptops as well because they have the usb cable that comes with it.....so can i buy either one, or will i have to buy a "portable" for my laptop?

"desktop" just mean an external drive that is meant to stay on a desktop. whereas, a "portable" is an external drive...just in a smaller case to allow for..portability...

either will work, and are portable..just pick whatever size works for you.

I think as they are external hard drives like what i have resting on my desk you should have no problems using one with a laptop.

which ones do you guys recommend are the best? (anywhere from 1tb-3tb.)....newegg is much more expensive than best buy i have seen.....im still not sure which site is best for ordering computer parts from.....
