Picture software

I am using Kodac Easy Share for pictures. I want to send a few pictures 5-6 in email with a caption or note about them under the pic. Easy share won't let me do that. I have tried sending the pics to me, the Forward and try to add a caption but each word I type goes in a vertical collum, looks funky and is very hard to read.

Is there something I am not doing properly?

Can you suggest a better software ( perferabley free) that will let me do this.

Get rid of Kodak Easy Share software. It does not work well for anything I have tried to use it for. Look at the free software below. It may be better for your use.
