hello. im building a new computer. i just sold my 1090t and 2 x 470's in sli set up, so now i need to replace it. i play most modern games (shooters ans racing games), and i do video editing through adobe primiere cs5.5. im really at a loss on which parts to get right now, and what i should wait for. should i get a whimpy cpu/gpu to hold me over till something new comes out?

things i DONT need:

case (micro atx)
ram
hard drives
ssd
psu (corsair gs700)
OS
monitor (25" 1080p)
keyboard/mouse/speakers

as i already have these

what i DO need is:
cpu
cpu cooler
motherboard (micro atx)
GPU
dvd burner, or maybe a blue ray drive/burner
"maybe " more ram, i have 2 x 4 gig 1600 sticks of gskill sniper. if i got more it would have to be the same kind.

not sure exactly what my budget is, but deffinatly not more than $1000,although i would like to be at around $700, but it all depends on performance per dollar is worth it.

any opinions or help would be great. thanks

what are some thoughts on the corsair h100? and im wondering if the gtx 560 will be aenough power for running games at max detail with out lag? i seen the 480 goes for $250.

Regarding the budget for the parts you need, it seems a little silly to not get something better than a 560 Ti if you're going to be gaming. The parts list linked will work fine, but here's some thoughts to save money and get a better card:

Mobo - Asrock Extreme3 Gen3 Z68 (~$130)

Cpu Cooler - CM Hyper 212+ or Evo (~$35)

Blu-Ray Reader (do you really need a burner?) - Asus (~$60)

And you definitely wouldn't need any more memory. You're set there.

mishkin, the board has to be a micro atx. and your right, i think with the budget i have, i should get something a little more powwrful than a 560ti. im seriously thinking of getting the corsair h100, but im wondering what other coolers are just as good for cheaper?

i dont think im going to need a cpu either, since i may be able to get a i5 2320 for free. its not unlocked and i wont be able to overclock it, but it is 3Ghz already with 3.3Ghz turbo, so that should be fine for now.

any other thought, opinions, or recomendations would be greatly appreciated

dont they sell any micro atx boards that are socket 1155 with the usb 3.0 header on it? maybe ill need to go socket 2011?

I don't know, I'm sure most micro-atx still have USB 2.0 headers.

As for socket 2011, I'm not sure where you pulled that idea up from. I wouldn't go LGA 2011 for a few reasons, a couple being price and compatibility with Ivy Bridge down the road.

i came up with that idea cause i seen a board or 2 with the usb 3.0 header on the socket 2011 boards. i havnt come across a 1155 micro atx board that has one, and my case has a front panel usb 3.0 jack that i wont be able to use if the board dont have the header for it. also, i though ivy bridge was going to be on the 2011 socket as well as the 1155 platform. no? and what are you thoughts on me getting the gtx 480 for $250? i know its not going to compete with my 2 x gtx 470's i just sold, but it could be alright? or should i just not go that route

i basicaly want to get an upgrade form the sli set up i had, and at the least get something that will perform close to it

and what about the h100? worth the money, or are there better or similar solutions for less?

Some cases come with a USB front header adapter so you can use the front ports. In that case they would run at USB 2 rather than 3, but at least they would work.

I would say air coolers like the CM Hyper 212+ and Evo would easily be your best bet for the price, if you're not out just to see how high you can overclock.

And you're right, socket 2011 will be compatible (obviously in general, specific boards aside) with Ivy Bridge-E, just like socket 1155 will be compatible with the regular Ivy Bridge line.

I was just trying to keep it around $700, like what you said, sorry.

The H100 is an overkill for that i5 2320. I did offer you a HSF that was cheaper and offered good performance, the H60.

I still highly recommend the MoBo I listed, a friend of mine has it and its a monster of a MoBo, im surprised that they pack so many features on such a small board, very well thought-out. For the GPU, the 560ti is a very good card, and offers good performance/price ratio(like what you stated above) but, seeing as you dont need a CPU, again, let me remake you a list.

MoBo- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131806

HSF- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181015

Blu-ray- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135252

GPU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150590

^ I'm not sure when Nvidia is releasing there new line-up, but I would suggest to maybe hold off a bit, just to see what happens, prices might drop, or, might be able to get a better card for the same price. But if you cant wait, the 7950 will max out any game @ 1080p, if thats where you play at. Well, hoped I really helped in some way,GL.

hey tech savvy. thanks for the list and thoughts. the 2320 i5 that im getting is not going to be a permanant option. in june, i customer of mine is having me build him another computer, and im going to use it in his build. at that time i will more than likley upgrade to at least a 2600k, or ivybridge, depending on price/performance. that being said, i would like to get a cooler that i wont have to replace when i get the new cpu. id like to get a cooler that will be able to handle any cpu in the future that i may get. in the end, it will be overclocked as high as it will allow me to.

as for the gpu. im thinking that i need to stick with nvidia, since i work with adobe premiere cs5.5. it supports the murcery engine, and allows rendering to be handled by cuda enabled cards. i was thinking the gtx 480, for 2 reasons. 1 is because its $250, and 2, the guy who is getting the i5 2320 in his next build in june, will also be getting whichever card i get now, since he too, uses adobe. i think the gtx 480 is stronger than a gtx 560ti, and costs less, so while i have it, it will run games better at 1080p than the 560, and will also be a great card for the customer when he gets it, although it may be more than he will really need. basicaly, what ever i buy for me now, will be going to him in june. but, if getting the 480 is a bad idea, then id be willing to look at something else. i was waiting for the gtx 560 2win by evga to come back in stock on newegg, cause i feel that is the best route per dollar right now.

i think the asrock board is a winner for now. it should serve me well, and will be a nice setup for this guy when he gets it in june. can you provide a link to the usb 3.0 to 2.0 adaptor.
