Urgent Computer Help Required

Hi,

I just plugged a USB cable into my computer, it is for an external hard drive, but the hard drive wasn't connected to the cable at the time. The computer instantly turned off when I plugged the cable in (it is the first time it has done this and the hard drive was plugged in only last week).

I unplugged the cable and turned the computer back on but I am now getting a no signal message on my monitor.

Can anyone help solve this issue quickly.

Might have had some static electricity in the cable. Does your computer POST?

It has never produced a POST beep since it was built by myself four years ago.

I have unplugged the internal cables that go to the front USB Ports (the ones I plugged the cable into) to see if that helped and it didn't.
