Proxy server for security

does anyone know of a really good instruction with pics or diagram that i may use to set up a proxy server id like to have my main computer be more of a behind the curtain type of computer and the front computer be more like security and that computer would be the dell dimension 4600 P4 Xp OS and i think it has 1gb of ram maybe. thoughts and suggestions pls.

What is is you excactly want the dell dimension to do? What do you want to accomplish? Setting up a proxy server to get a more secure network is one to do it. But there are better possibilities for most problems.

There are dedicated linux-based firewall operating systems that can accomplish that, and they will run fine on that hardware.

As Vipernitrox suggests, the key is to know what exactly you want to do.
