How to expand my computer knowledge?

I consider myself an experienced PC and Mac user. I'm looking to expand my knowledge and perhaps get to the point where I can call myself advanced.

Soooooo.... I'm looking for projects, basically. Software-related is the preference since I have no money for hardware and basically no expertise with that.

Does anybody have suggestions? For example, I'm working on learning more about and installing Linux already. I'm pretty well versed in encryption. I know a fair bit of networking. These are all self taught and I want to take on more projects for either PC or Mac that will take me to that elusive next level.

The best thing to do is read and ask questions. That's usually the best way to learn about software I reckon, as well as actually doing it yourself. As for hardware, reading is usually all well and good, but it's the doing it yourself bit which makes you learn about hardware.

Spend more time on the forum

Look it up, read about it. Ask questions, and be specific. There are hundreds of guides for various things out there.
