Screen only works when fully opened

Hi everyone. I have a Samsung MS2274 and I have a problem. The only way the screen works is when I open it up all the way. When it's in any other position I only seem to get static or it's just black. I asked some people at Geek Squad seeing as how I'm not very knowledgeable in laptops but they just told me I would have to bring it in to them and they would have to charge me like $50 to tell me what my problem is. If anyone would be able to help me or would have any ideas on how to fix this that would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Sounds like a short in the display cable. Don't bring it to them. I'd suggest doing some research and try to locate a highly reviewed local computer shop. Where I used to work, we repaired laptops (bad screens and LCD cables). The charge for us to do something like that would typically run roughly $110 plus the cost of parts. Display cables are typcially around $50. Geeksquad would probably charge a few hundred and ship the PC out for said repairs...
