Best Keyboard for UNDER $80?

Hello Everyone :)

So I have a little bit of money I'm wanting to spend and I was just wondering, what is the best keyboard for UNDER $80? That said, I can spend a little more than that, but any money that I can save buying a keyboard would be great. I'm going to be using it for gaming, as well as general use. I don't want it to be too big as I do intend to transport it when moving to and from my mum and dad's houses. BTW, I want a mechanical keyboard, but nothing too loud! :p

Thanks,
Gun :good:

Im not a gamer but do like Logitech for general use. My suggestion also but be to put your hands on it in a store. What's right for one might not meet your needs. I like a nice spread on the keyboard. Fingers fit nicely. If ya find one in a store that you might run with you can shop from there or shop on line.

Also suspect many are at school and or work now.

It's not quite in your budget but I have a SteelSeries G6v2 with red switches. You can get a black switch version as well but I think the reds are quieter switches. Most of the noise from mine is when I press the key too hard and it hits the bottom of the keyboard.

I see it locally here for $84CAD, should be able to find some deals on it in the US.

Okay I think I'm going to go to a local store to get the keyboard. Could you guys find the best keyboard from this link within my budget? http://www.standard.com.au/products/hardware/connect-to-the-pc-laptop/keyboards.aspx and tell me why you chose it :p. I'm also going to check out another local shop which don't have a website. Is there any particular brands that are known for good keyboards? So I can't go wrong. Also, are there any keyboard manufacturers or features to stay away from?

Thanks

I've got a CM Storm QuickFire Rapid. Cherry MX Red switches, makes a hell of alot of noise like most mechanical keyboards. Only "downside" is that there is no keypad/numpad. But I'm not fussed about that, I never used it on my steelseries merc stealth anyway :p

If you recommend it, I'll get it if I see it at one of the stores. I'm not fussed about a numpad either, it makes it smaller as well. If you have any recommendations from the page I linked you, please tell me.

Also, what's the difference between Red and Blue switches?

Blues are also terrible for gaming. Go with Cherry MX Browns for sure. Good for typing, good for gaming, and the quietest or near quietest Cherry MX switch.

That's a bit of bs. I use blue switches and I have no problems gaming. In comparison, I also own a board with blacks and a board with reds. Out of the three, I'll always pick blues, regardless of how "terrible" they are when I play games.

Gennerally when people talk about gaming, Blues are the worst, Blacks are the best.

Sure, because more then often people just read what other people write. Do you own a board with blue switches? Don't give an opinion(yes, an opinion) if you have nothing to base it on. There's nothing wrong using blues for gaming.

The blacks and Browns are considered the best for gaming because they double tap much easier then blues. No, I don't have one.

Says who? I don't have _any_ problems gaming including double tapping with blues. The concept of one switch being better is just plain stupid. It's all a matter of preference. Unless you own a mechanical board and have your own opinion to state, don't go around stating someone elses opinion like it's a fact. As I've stated, I personally own keyboards with blacks, blues and reds. I've also used brown, buckling springs, and a couple of the alps switches. With that in mind, I don't see a significant difference between any of them that would cause someone to argue that one switch is better for gaming then another, that's just someone enforcing an opinion as a fact.

@OP, if you're going to get a keyboard with mechanical switches I highly suggest you go try some different switches and see which feel the best for you.
If you can't find any locally, some companies make kits for just this purpose:

No. Dude stop being so rude.

He's not being rude. You are just spouting information that you've heard/read from other people. You have no idea what you're actually talking about because you have no personal experience in the matter.

That's his point.

That's what's really making the quality of help on this forum go down hill. A bunch of kids just hear other people's thoughts and opinions and reiterate it here as fact, when they've never even messed with the stuff in the first place.

Yes, he is. He started being rude as soon as I said something, even before he Han any idea whether I tried one or not.
