I am currently running windows XP latest updates

I seem to be haveing trouble getting all 3 monitors workin

I have the 3 monitors connected to displayport, hdmi and single link dvi ports Catalyst seems to detect all three are connected but will not allow me to use more than two of them, if all three are connected once two of them are active but it seems like its impossible to get the third one to do anything I can get all three to turn on in Linux though

I belive the issue was due to ati's "legacy" drivers for XP being limited, I grudgenly upgraded to windows 7 and it started working as soon as the drivers where installed.

I would have to agree this is likely an XP issue.

The 7970 should be a three-monitor-capable card. While quite unfortunate, I'm not surprised it isn't working for you on XP.

From Sapphire's site:
When running Microsoft Windows XP, Eyefinity technlogy supports a maximum of 2 displays

You need to replace the HDMI connection with an ACTIVE adaptor. That's a HDMI -> DVI adaptor that has a chip on it. This should've come with the card. It wont work unless you use that. If you don't have one, you'll need this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814998050 and one for HDMI. All connections need to be the same for it to work. ITs dumb, but what is needed.
