AGP graphics card

Hi all, trying to sort out an old computer I've acquired, so far, I've had to replace the cpu to get it working, but the on board graphics are terrible, when I put the graphics card in, the motherboard bleeps to say there's a display adapter problem, it's an Advent 3310, one long beep and 2 short, can I be certain it's the card, and not the slot, or any of the bios settings, I did notice you could change the settings in bios for 128mb, 258mb and so on, would this make a difference? as I've tried most of them, it's an Nvidia fx5200xt

Almost certain it's the one you posted, but I shall run up and have a look in a minute, it has the same mounting for the heatsink, same amount of pci slots and ram slots, and one agp slot

But either way it looks like the graphics card is bad, or not seated properly http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/awardbeep.htm#

If reseating the graphics card doesn't help, remove the cmos battery and turn the power off at the wall, hold down the computer's on button for 10 secs. Then replace the cmos battery and turn the power back on at the wall. Also make sure you have the latest BIOS.

Also try running only one stick of memory if you have more than one.

Cheers, I did already do the cmos thing at one point to see if it solved the problem with it not posting which turned out to be broken cpu pins, but I'll try that again, I currently only have 1 512mb stick of ram at the minute, I'm upgrading to 2gb as soon as I get paid, and a graphics card by the looks of it as well, I'll try everything you've suggested and if I still have no luck I'll buy another, annoyingly I've found this, but collection only, thought it was a good deal http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/108816392/msi-fx5500-256mb-agp-graphics-card.html

I think part of the problem may be the system trying
to reserve some of the graphics card memory, which
it has none to spare in that 128mb card.? Just a guess.

Getting a newer card with more memory is a good idea
but so is adding more system memory as well.

Those are nice, but I don't want to spend more than £10-£15, this is actually only a second computer for my step daughter, the most demanding game she plays is Minecraft, I actually have a much newer desktop downstairs for gaming which is desperately in need of a new gpu, also it's really just a stop gap, as I'm building her a socket 775 next, but I got this computer for free so thought I might as well upgrade it to a level she can use in the mean time, plus, it's been a good chance to learn some more. Also I've just noticed that card would probably be pushing the psu to it's limit and I know the board is ddr, would that mean a ddr2 card wouldn't work, I'm not sure here, I was genuinely asking as not sure.

I think to be on the safe side, I'll get the memory first, what do you think is a card that will run Minecraft at an acceptable level, it says in the recommended specs nvidia 2xx
