I just picked up my first build about 25 days ago from the shop and I have just learned that my power supply only supplys 40 Amps on the 12V, but my graphics card requires 42 Amps! (noob mistake) Is this a disaster, is there any way I could possibly return it, it hasn't been 30 days yet?

PSU: Antec HCG 750m
Graphics: Msi Gtx 770 Twin Frozr OC

Who ever told you a 770 needs 42 amps are nuts. At most it might pull alittle over 200W under load. That's around 17 to 18 amps. If they said 42 amps, that's probably what's suggested for the entire system on average with a 770.

Yes sorry can someone close this thread, I was poorly informed, I have 2 - 12volt rails and my total amperage is 62amps so I am fine, sorry for the mistake.

That and as stated above a 770 does not need 500w by itself.

It's just what Nvidia recommends.

You should be fine, you actually have 2 - 12volt rails at 40 amps each.

Yeah, but it can only provide at total of 744W which is 62A, not 80A as you're implying. Still loads for that machine.

It's just what Nvidia recommends.

Where do they say that? The most they indicate is 230W, which is less than 20A? With a beefy CPU and other gear, and over clock, i can see how a 40A requirement would be recommended, but the card only requires half that. Either way, the current machine with 62A is plenty.
