Hey all! I am conisdering which parts I want to use in my desktop. I used to be into gaming way back in the day when a 512mb Nvidia card was the next big thing. I wound up in the army, and now I am going back to school. I am taking a master degree in Cyber security, with concentration in ethical hacking and data network security.

I have to write large programs that really tax my laptop, so I am looking to build a really decent desktop that has enough power to do anything I want, when i want to do it. Im also looking for durability. I dont really intend on gaming at all. I am very open to suggestions and critiques. Also, I want to keep the cost down under 1k. Thanks all!

These are the pieces I am considering:

To put it bluntly, very bad build. An i5 would be much better than that AMD, that GPU is very old, the PSU is way overkill, and the case isn't good.

If you don't like that case, choose another one, but make sure its from NZXT, Corsair, or Fractal Design (there are other good ones, but I would stick to those 3). You make not need a new monitor, keyboard, or mouse, but if your current monitor is less than 1080p, get a new one. If your KB and mouse are over 3 years old and cost under $40, get new ones. Also, if you don't need a lot of storage, get a 250/500 (256/512) GB SSD.

Awesome, Se thats what I was afraid of, the tech has changed so much, I wanted to make sure. I do need the storage, however, I dont have a monitor yet but i am looking at getting one of the new curved screen ones.Ill redo it and see what I come up with based on your suggestions and Ill repost it.

I'd go with 2 monitors if I were you, from the sound of what you'll be doing you might need it. If you're going to go with the 2 monitor setup, you'll need an HDMI converter for the GTX 960 as it only supports one DVI or VGA (can't remember right now) display. Good luck!
