VLAN and switch issues (HP 1810-8 J9800A)

Hey guys.

I'm sitting here with some switches, that worked fine yesterday.. but now, they seems to don't want to communicate as well as before. Frustrating.

The switches are HP 1810-8 HP 1810-8 J9800A and J9449A. I have them connected to the mgmt lan with static IPs. These switches are supposed to be manageable through the adm-network. When I connect to an adm-tagged port on the switch, I can communicate with the switch I'm connected to (J9800A) (and all switches that have been set up before), but not the other one (J9449A). The web interface on the J9800A does not want to load the menus either... it loads parts of the header image of the switch, and the "system description" which is the default home tab.

Does this make sense to anyone..? I've tried updating firmware, resetting the switches and do the config from scratch, power cycle the switches... no luck. I do not understand this issue! I don't get any errors either.. it just won't connect.

I appreciate your help..

Hi :D

What changed between then and now? Any additional cabling or similar?

What kind of topology are you setting them up as? Can you verify that the management vlan is allowed down the trunk on both interfaces? (And easy ones like both interfaces are trunked for tagged traffic, vlan exists on both sides, etc :p )

The only thing that has changed is that I updated the switch software on the J9800A, but that was after it stopped working. As far as I know, nothing else has changed.

Fiber in -> Main switch p4 -> J9449A p7 -> J9800A p2 -> This computer.
There also seem to be a problem with the switch in my office. After an IP change, it suffers from the same problems as these other switches. Don't remember if that is an 9449 or 9800..

Mgmt vlan is allowed on both interfaces, vlan exists on both sides, no faulty cables, and everything is tagged/untagged according to normal procedure.

I remember it being extremely easy to loop these switches, when you change the config it seems to wipe it all then apply the new one potentially leaving you with a nasty storm. The web management interface didn't like loading when it happened either. Was either very slow or loaded about like you describe, partially at best.

I assume you'd recognize a storm if you have physical access to the switches, but did you lose all 3 around the same time?

Yes. looping them would be something I'd see. There are only one or two cables connected to these switches at the moment. The uplink, and my computer.
I lost the two, specified in the last post, sometime before yesterday.. I don't know when they failed. The one in my office (which I also see is an J9449A) was lost after the IP change. I now realize that during that IP change it was crashing with another switch IP in the system (one of the two faulty ones). Could this be the problem..?

Kind of confusing, this problem :p

Hehe, I guess that was not the best way to formulate myself.

Yes, an IP was assigned that was already in use. Not that it should mean anything to the settings of the switch.. I changed it back to an unassigned IP, of course.
