How long before upgrading the Intel Core i5-4440?

How much longer should I wait before thinking seriously about upgrading the Intel Core i5-4440 on my desktop.

I'm getting 3.10 GHz right now without overclocking. The four cores in this CPU are hyperthreaded.

Any thoughts?

There's no hyperthreading on the i5. It's just 4 physical cores.

What do you with your computer? Games? photo editing? etc...

Well, seeing as how your i5 is neither hyper-threaded nor is it overclockable, I suppose it depends what your main usage are.

If your a basic PC user then its fine, it you want to get into demanding apps, gaming, and overclocking you'll need, at minimum, an i5 K-series or an i7 K-series.. also you'll need new mobo, ram...etc etc

I just dumped my 4th gen system on my wife and upgraded into a 7th gen i7, DDR4 ..etc.. it was time for me...but I use my rig for 4K gaming so I wanted more kick than I was getting - and I was using a 4690K overclocked..all depends on your needs but the 1150 socket is dead now.

Depends on what you're doing.

If it's gaming you'd probably just be better off upgrading the GPU.

I use my computer for Office and the Adobe Create Suite. I also play Civ VI and some do a minor amount of video editing. I just checked the specs for the i5-4440 and sure enough, this CPU is NOT hyperthreaded. I thought it was. My bad. My computer is saying that it is running at the speed of 3.3 GHz.

i5 cpus are not hyper-threaded.. an upcoming 7th gen, I believe will be HT, but not out currently.

Similar with overclocking, if you don't have a K-series CPU, its not unlocked.

Are you finding things lag now? too slow for the tasks you listed?

At this point buying a socket 1150 cpu doesnt make sense.. even used.

Laquer Head, I'm not having any issues right now. I'm trying to look down the road and figure out when an upgrade will be inevitable. Nothing is lagging right now.

Beers, thanks for the link. That was really cool! It looks as though I have a setup that will support Civ VI for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, hard to say.. but when the time comes it'll be a whole new setup anyhow. When you are ready to upgrade/build new let us know and we can help you pick parts within a budget
