Apple or Dell

Good morning.
My windows pc died yesterday so now looking for a home, non gaming pc.
I'm looking for a non build pc and I've had dell before and found them reliable but as I use my TV as a monitor I need a hdmi port but dell only seem to offer hdmi ports of 1.4b in their standard computers which as I understand it will have restrictions which seems ridiculous in 2025.
My alternative seems to be a mini mac, starting at £525 which ticks all the boxes apart from apple don't run windows which I am used to but aware that windows can be installed on a mini mac
My budget is anything up to £1000 for a new desktop as I don't wish to buy 2nd hand.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I always recommend to people to have their computer built for them instead of buying one online. When buying online, you only get a 1 year warranty unless you do the extended/accidental damage warranty that is extra. If you have someone local build it for you, all parts have their own warranties. Some parts have only a 1 year warranty while others will have a 3 year, 5 year, or lifetime warranty. You also get more bang for your buck if have it built. I've been building computers for years, its simple and doesn't take much time to do.

Are you looking at anythng in particular at Dell to get?

Agree with the above. A desktop is not really that hard to do your self. Plus the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Since you don't game all kinds of processers now have a built in GPU, no need to buy a video card and most boards have a HDMI port. For a 1000 bucks you could have a really nice build. People here would be more then happy to help you find the parts you need and help you build it.

Too add to JohnB35's direction with built vs. prebuilt: one thing to also consider - Apple vs. Windows devices; Apple is not easily repairable as Apple ties the parts to the Serial Number and the memory and storage drive for most devices are soldered on the logic board so if you have an issue with either piece, you would need to replace the logic board and that is not cheap if out of warranty.

As to the HDMI ports on the Dell, we use all types of Dells with HDMI without issue, so I would assume you will be fine as they should be the latest (1.4), not 1.2. You may be good with a Micro PC from Dell.

Or, you may want to consider a Mini PC like these ones that are half the cost.

If you're contemplating installing Windows on a Mac, why not just buy a Windows computer?

To me that seems like the obvious solution. Take a stroll through Currys.

Maybe the same reason as having a Linux VM on Windows? ;) :) I know some people who wants a Mac but need some software that is Windows-specific only.

Having said that, most of the common programs that I have seen are now available on both Windows and macOS. @somtam, what software are you referring to?
