Reformatting laptops.

I have an older laptop with Win10. It has gotten really slow and I'm not certain the main reason other than it being old. Would a fresh reformatting and win10 reinstall tend to do much in that case?

Does it have an SSD or a spinning hard drive? If it's a spinning HDD replace it with an SSD and do a fresh Windows 10 install.

Personally you can notice the difference on any system.

I usually reinstall once or twice a year.

Being older it probably lacks RAM though.

I don't know for sure if it's a SSD but here are some other specs.

Win10 Home
Dell Inspiron 15-3552
10.0.19045 Build 19045
X 64-based PC

Intel Pentium CPV N3700@ 1 60GHz 1601MHz, 4 Cores, 4 Logical...

4GB RAM

You have a low end cpu along with only 4gb of ram. So basically the only thing you can do is increase the ram but it's still gonna be slow. If you go into device manager and expand disk drives you can list what model is shows and we can tell you if it's an ssd or mechanical drive. Most likely a mechanical drive though. An ssd would also help.

It was much faster when I first got it. I got it mostly to watch streaming movies/tv or .iso files on vlc. Lots of stalling now.

Run Ccleaner and then a malwarebytes scan. Disable any unnecessary programs from running at bootup using the startup tab in task manager.

Disk drive
ST500LT012-1DG142

It does appear to be traditional drive.

Yeah it is. So an getting an SSD would definitely help as well as getting more ram.
