can I use NTFS on my 64gb SD card in my Canon camera

What exact camera do you have? As long as the camera can read ntfs then yes.

Late to the post, but to my knowledge, Canon cameras support FAT32 and exFAT.

Most external devices don't support NTFS, so you'll usually need to format it in a FAT derivative if you want the device to read them.

Alternatively you can let the cam format the card and it will establish a usable file system (but also wipe the card, so back it up first).
