Hey folks,

Haven't built a desktop in some time so I'd like some feedback on this setup. It's a balance between performance, budget and some personal preferences. I'm looking for any compatibilty issues and system balance. Replacing a 1.9 GHz, 512MB RAM, GF Ti4400 system.

Thanks.

Currently own and will use:

Soundblaster Audigy Live Soundcard
Logitech Wireless mouse and keyboard

Buying:

Intel BOXDP965LTCK Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboarb

Intel Pentium D 3.4 GHz 950 Presler 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Dual Core Processor Model BX80553950

Crucial Technology 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model CT2KIT12864AA667

Everything looks fine except for the processor. I would either go with an X2 (to save some money) or a Core 2 Duo. There is no reason to get a Pentium D when there are better options for the same price.

Also, I would go with a 7600gt. That 512mb on the gs isn't going to give you leaps and bounds performance gains.

bobo has really hit the nail with the processor thing. with the newish release of conroe you should look into getting one of those, even the entry level one should beat that processor.

if you want to save money the amd's are good because amd has dropped their prices to compete with the conroe line.

True. Though if you are going intel all the way. Don't get the 950 I would go for the 930.
