System unstable

Hi all,

My system has been acting up these past few days and i dunno whats causing it.

Just seem slow sometimes (way slower than usual)....and its been lagging & crashed on me yesturday and today and wouldnt respond until i force restarted it.

I think it must be a hardware related problem because i re-instaled windows a few days back but its still the same.

My system temps are fine but could graphics card overheating cause my system to become unstable?
The vid card temps are the only temp i cannot monitor as my card does not have a sensor:mad:

I just dunno whats up with it

have you checked for spyware etc? and, what virus scanner/firewall did you use since you reinstalled windows?

Hi Arch,

Ive scanned it for spyware with Advanced Spyware Remover and results came back clean.

My problems started a few days ago so i gave it a clean reinstal of windows thinking that this would sort the problem out but its still ike it after:(

I dont think it would be spyware because like i said ive re-instaled windows.

Im now using Avast free antivirus (same as before) but now also using Zonealarm free firewall.

Yeah, that temp is a bit high... Mine runs idle at about 36C...

I'd give it a dust and then see what it's like then... Thats probably the problem :p

that temp is pretty high for for a sempron, however i wouldn't have thought this would cause the unit to run slow.

If the machine takes longer to load stuff rather than do processor intensive tasks you may have a hard drive issue.

Hmm alright.
Think i will give it a good clean to get the dust out lol.

I hope it isnt a hard drive issue though;)

Well i just cleaned out my system fans and they were quite dusty.

Ive found out the cause!

Folding at home was using 100% of my cpu so causing it to get very hot as i was like multitasking & playing games at the same time.
as soon as i quit F@H my temps dropped by 15-20c:D within a few minuites.

Looks like i wont be folding now.

My cpu temp idle is now 32c.

The only problem is now that my Cpu fan is making a slight clicking noise....i think i need a new cpu fan.

Heya

Sorry to hear F@H caused that. However, I would look at the ROOT cause which I would suspect to be poor airflow. My 3000+ OC'D to 2.6Ghz maxes out at 42 Celsius at 24/7 PC usage @ 100% CPU load. Make sure that you have a sufficient amount of fans in your PC and make sure that they are oriented properly. I would suggest you make a new post in the appropriate section and ask us for a better solution to your problems.

JAN :D

You can still fold and play games just don't do them together. I don't know what your setup is but turning the folding client off and on isn't that difficult. Set it up as a service, and then under administrative tools/services in control panel right click on it and set it to manual, then setup a short cut to services on your desktop to save time. Now all you have to do is turn it off when you're using your PC and turn it on when you go to bed or go to work.
