Website (forum) Promotion..

I recently acquired a website from a friend, I've completely rebuilt it's appearance and functionality, and now I want to advertise it.. right now, I've around 700 members, I'd like to shoot for 3000+ by the end of Q4.

I know I can sign up for Google AdWords, but I'm not convinced it's the best way to advertise my site, as we're a forum that offers technical help for a few gaming systems, but namely the PSP.

Anyways, input is appreciated.. and, price is a factor to consider, so the cheaper the better... but, it needs to be a good, quality service that does what it implies :D

Please, don't reply with 'search google' or with results you've found on Google... I'm really looking for some first/second hand experiences here.

I'm not sure if you can do this, but maybe do something with Gogle Referrals?
e.g. if you were willing to pay 10 cents for each new member, it would cost you just $230, although I'm not sure if it's possible.

If you want to go the free but longer way of getting traffic then you may want to look at this article. It lists 45 ways that you can get more traffic to your website.

Anyway, just wondering if you have a good amount of posts and threads on your forum as that will also help when getting new members. If you don't then maybe you could pay someone to post or you could start making some of your own posts with different usernames just so that it looks more active. Nobody wants to join a forum that looks inactive or empty. Good luck anyway.
