External Hard Drive trouble transferring really large files

The problem your having is that the Buffalo is formated in FAT32 which limits the size of any given file to 4GB. If you can reformat the Buffalo to NTFS you won't have any issues tranffering files over 4GB to the device.

    New To Raid

One thing that I've noticed with RAID running on a mobo with IDE or SATA drives is they have a high likelyhood of failing. This and the marginal performance gains is why I tell people if you have to ask RAID isn't for you. It just seems that IDE and SATA drives just aren't as reliable as the...

What are the most popular PC games?

Orange Box yes have that. My first experience with Steam. I'm liking Steam more now but still get annoyed that it needs to update seemingly every week.

    Should I Take the Risk?

I'm running Windows 7 RC 64bit and the Sims 3 runs fine. As a side note be sure to get the patch it fixes the issues with speeds 2 and 3 not being much faster then speed 1. It's a known bug but the patch takes care of it. Systemrequirementslab.com really needs to get itself updated. It's a...

I want to turn an old PC into a server for storage - where do I start

I think it depends on how "professional" you want to be about it. If your into having a "real" server then you should go with either a Linux server of Microsft Small Business Server. Either of theses will give you the full on server experience but may require you to learn more then you...

    Mst HD SMART bad, backup

If your getting a smart error then it's a good idea to back up the drive and replace it not ignore it. If your drive is so bad off that SMART is telling you it's bad then it's not long for this world.

    How many HDD's?

A 500GB SATA drive is $65.00 on Tigerdirect.com so it's not like it's a huge investment. You also didnt' say what OS your going to be using. If you are going to using Vista or Windows 7 a 20GB drive won't been enough a 40GB drive won't cut it either. Also if you go two drives to separate your...

What OS are we talking about here guys XP, Vista or Windows 7? I'd like to help but which OS your using make a big differnce. Nero has really dropped the ball in the last few versions IMO. I always seemed to get the bug where when you added tracks to an Audio CD to burn it would only put them...

I don't mean to diss you just to inform you. You haven't looked up any info on your PC have you? A socket 939 is an AM2 socket and it is still very much being made. Also there are tons of CPU fans that will work for your system on Tigerdirect.com. Any AM2 socket will work fine. I have the...

Need a new AMD board, but can't seem to find the right one...

I have and highly recommend the following board. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=A455-2863 It's about as cheap as a full featured board can get and still have a low price. I realize it may be a little sort on connections only 2 SATA and 1 IDE. It has 4...

    new processor questions

I'm gonna give you a two part answear. Does your board support that chip? I don't know and I'm not bothering to look you should do that yourself. Will you notice a differnce? More then likely not. Just running Windows, Surfing, movie watching and most game playing aren't going to be improved...

I need a good mouse suggestion

Any lag created from converting the signal to wireless would the about equal to the lag created by the resistance of the wire in a corded mouse. In either case it all happens "instantly" to the user. A lag of 10-12ms would be noticable, I do game with my wirerless Microsoft Wireless Optical...

I need a good mouse suggestion

@bomberboysk cordered mice don't have faster response/tracking times. There is nothing about a cord that makes them faster, it's all in the quaility of the mouse. I perfer wireless mice for gaming since there is no cord to drag around and get in the way. With the Microsoft optical mouse the...

    64 bit

A 64bit OS will run 32bit software just fine. The only things you should have an issue with is security softare that tries to directly access the kernal such as AV programs. Windows 7 64bit is great btw I've been running it since the RTM has been released.
