SSD SATA cables: is there a specific cable for SATA 3, or is it just the port itself that matters?

cables the same. I thought there was a difference before in the cables but it's more they've added the clip to the SATA 3 cables so it holds onto the connector better.

SSD SATA cables: is there a specific cable for SATA 3, or is it just the port itself that matters?

Your motherboard should come with a few sata cables. If your PSU is not modular (i.e. detachable cables), the sata power connectors should be on there somewhere.

will an Intel Core i3-1005G1 processing unit last for 10 years?

There's definitely nothing "kind of" about that thing. It most definitely is a turd for 2022.

Replace Win11 with W10 or W7 in new HP Pavilion possible?

MS Support is more along the lines of MS releasing vulnerability security patches to the OS. If you want to fly without them, by all means go for it. I don't recommend it, but I'm also not going to stop you from doing so.

    Alder lake build

DDR5 is way too expensive right now. I wouldn't bother with that stuff. Get some low timing DDR4 and you should be fine

WIndows 10 Will there be any hardware incompatibility issues upgrading from Windows 7 to 10 (or 11)?

Nah, you don't need a physical disc. Download the media creation tool from their website and install it onto a USB. Just set your BIOS to boot from USB afterwards so it loads the windows 10 installer. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    Thoughts on this monitor

144 is nice. It's a bit hard to drive on the GTX 1080 though I must admit. Now that I own both a 180hz Ultrawide and a 60hz ultrawide, I'd say that jumping to an ultrawide is more important than going to 144hz with 16:9 for the games that I play and other general non gaming shenanigans.

    Dell XPS 15z RAM Upgrade

Do you have the exact product number of the XPS 15? Dell's made quite a few different ones over the decade.

170hz is most likely an overclock setting. Look through it on your monitor's settings menu.

How do I get my two Tesla M40s to work simultaneously on my Asus B450-F Gaming II Board?

SLi might as well be deprecated at this point. Hmm... that's probably true. It looks like it has the SLi fingers, but it might not support it anyways on the driver level. The M40 will need to run the quadro drivers. Also, the M40 has no fan. I sure hope you have some sort of a cooling method...

    Thoughts on this monitor

It really only matters if you plan on playing games that utilize HDR in the first place. And Windows 10 implementation of HDR is soooooooooooooo lame. G-Sync compatible is just Nvidia's confirmation that VRR/AMD Freesync works with their Nvidia cards to their made up standard. So anything...

The LG's a VA Panel. Usually between IPS and VA, you're trading a higher contrast ratio and a slower response time for VA. For FPS gaming, I'd probably stick with IPS for the faster response time. I wouldn't bother with the marketing BS when it comes to HDR, especially when it's only rated...

What kinds of display settings should be adjusted to tweak my display?

Yeah, at this point it comes down to personal preference. Unless of course you have access to a monitor calibration tool which would let you set it up to be as accurate as possible.

What kinds of display settings should be adjusted to tweak my display?

I would keep the contrast to the default value. It's not uncommon to see panels being calibrated to the default value provided.

What kinds of display settings should be adjusted to tweak my display?

I suspect your old monitor is probably the one that is under saturated and not as accurate as the VP249QGR. IPS panels are usually pretty good colour accuracy wise out of the box, especially from the larger monitor brands.

Should I use HDMI or DisplayPort for everyday computer use plus gaming?

Yeah it still kinda does. HDMI 2.0/2.1 is a gong show with it's implementation and is somewhat limited in exposure to large high spec TV's right now. DP is the way to go.

Suggestions for a new monitor please?

You can enable G-Sync through the Nvidia Control Panel even if it doesn't bear the "G-Sync Compatible" nomenclature. It just means that the experience is not tested by Nvidia to meet their standard, so your mileage may vary. It could work perfectly fine (i.e. no screen tearing at a certain range...

Suggestions for a new monitor please?

144 is really smooth. It's nice to have, but not necessarily required. If you do get a high refresh rate one, I'd look into getting one that's G-Sync Compatible rated since you have a Nvidia GPU. You could opt for one with the g-sync module (G-Sync Ultimate) but they tend to be quite pricey and...
