I have a custom built tower (specs in my signature) that im using for games, itd be useful to have my mic working, but it wont show up anywhere, though its tested and working. I am using a Turtle Beach X12 headset, and the Earforce DSS sound enhancer. With or without the enhancer it wont work...

Had a touchpad laptop with the same issue, except it would blue-screen constantly (A very big annoyance when it decided to go in the middle of class), it only went bad when i /wasnt/ using the touch bad though, so likely a similar issue, just in the other direction

Chrome and/or firefox is your fix, as others have said. IE is bug and virus-prone, even Windows Edge is better.

If it just randomly changed like that run an Anti-virus. Thats what happened to my parents old PC, that ended up having bad malware that fried it

Swap to luinux (i prefer ubuntu), and stick in a quad core. Any BIOS issues can be solved through Ubuntu easier than any other OS's handling of BIOS. But, you should change the motherboard to something that native handles newer quad cores. I run a Sabtertooth X58, serves me amazing.

kaspersky is a pretty tight firewall from standard, check those settings and whitelist steam if it isnt already. Also check power settings, put it on max proformance.

Afraid i cant help anymore, never had the issue myself with a wired mouse, wireless i had a logitech mouse go bad that was acting like that. So my best guess is try a different mouse
