    help reformating hard drive

trizoy, so it's possible that i just reinstalled the os over everything i had? what i have now is like a brand new system. there's much more disk space than what there was, and none of what i originally had installed is there anymore. but somehow the orig. os info stuck. (i think that's right)...

    help reformating hard drive

so i'm in need of reformatting my laptop's hard drive. it's a dell inspiron 1100 with winxp home. i'll be loading the same os back onto it. however, i've looked all over the web and can't really find a good guide for reformatting on a laptop that doesn't have a floppy drive. can someone please...

yet another 'help me choose' thread...

is that the 6000 or the 9300? the 9300 is almost too big for me - i'd get lost in its screen... The only reason I'm hesitant on this dell is 3 people in my media intern class already have it (it's a really small class - around 10ish). Plus I'm trying to get away from the whole dell name - no...

yet another 'help me choose' thread...

This is what the notebook comes equipped with for a video card: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator w/10MB-128MB shared video memory I think that should be fine - even though it has no dedicated memory - plus the system has a gig of RAM. But if my editing needs still require some dedicated...

yet another 'help me choose' thread...

ok, i have pretty specific needs for my new laptop. i will mostly be using it for multimedia and editing (both playing and editing video, pictures, and some audio). This means using the adobe premiere/photoshop programs and other such CPU-demanding programs. I would be editing more video than...

    laptop shopping

i just went away for a few days, so i didn't buy the dell 6000 yet. so before i do without the discount, or wait until another discount comes rolling around, i would like to know a few more details - how fast is the hard drive? if it's not that fast, would i have to install a new one myself or...

    divx to svcd

scratch that idea, winAVI doesn't support divx. but you could always try the bundle available on www.divx.com that includes a converting program that deals with divx files. (available for a reasonable cost).

    divx to svcd

i believe WinAVI video can do it, along with many other formats supported. it doesn't cost that much either, if i recall.

    Xvid

if its just the xvid movies you're having trouble with, then just download the free xvid player (version 6 is the newest, i think). this will play your movies with ease.

    program to backup programs???

i know it sounds kindof odd, but is there a program out there that allows you to backup allready installed programs on your computer that were downloaded (and the setup file deleted long ago? I ask this because i hope to get a new laptop and my old one has many programs that were downloaded...

    laptop shopping

I'm actually heavily leaning towards the inspiron 6000. I configured it to $2,223, and got a huge discount with a coupon code and got it down to only $1,473. Can't complain with that... I think I can live without your 10.9 pound 'laptop' ;)

do you think it should the harddrive/processor should be fast enough and have enough power to handle decent video editing (this is what I will be doing a lot this year for a media class I'm taking).
