    CPU Compatibility

Your case will either support ATX, E-ATX, mATX or any variant of ATX. ATX is the standard for motherboard sizes. For CPU coolers, specifically ones with heatsinks, your case has to be wide enough. That's entirely up to you to make sure.

Performance wise, the latest i7 is still no match for a 5 yr-old machine!

"Performance wise, the latest i7 is still just a tad better than a 5 yr-old machine, not including overclocking!" Fixed it for you :) Sounds like a good deal on the laptop though, even if a few years old. Should be pretty good build quality, if I remember them correctly.

    Need Help!

If I had to say, it's your CPU. WoW is (was at least) very CPU intensive, and afaik with Legion came a new graphics engine that takes an additional toll. For reference, I get about 25-35 FPS if I play 2560x1440 Level 10 with 200% scaling (effectively 5120x2880) on the rig in my signature. Pretty...

External Hard drives on Desktop question

Between your USB2 ports, you have 60 MB/s of transfer speed. One SATA port (typical HDD internal port) you get around 600MB/s per port. Most HDDs don't use more than 125-150MB/s though.

Troll'sBuild, $500 Budget High Performance Gaming Build (No Janky Parts.)

I would probably choose a different PSU as well, but I've read the new Rosewills aren't so bad as they used to be. However Antec/Seasonic are always preferred imo.

E8500 overclock problem on gigabyte 945gcm-s2l

Depends on your memory. Beers is absolutely correct in that it's showing half the effective memory. If you dropped the multiplier to 1.0, it should land at 333MHz, which would be 667MHz, a common DDR2 RAM speed.

E8500 overclock problem on gigabyte 945gcm-s2l

That really sounds like you're either using a 32-bit OS or running on onboard graphics, which you pretty much can't with GTA V. Open Control Panel and go to Control Panel\System and Security\System and check.

E8500 overclock problem on gigabyte 945gcm-s2l

I think it will be faster for normal use if your CPU runs at 3GHz and RAM at 500MHz, compared to 2.53GHz/833MHz.

E8500 overclock problem on gigabyte 945gcm-s2l

You shouldn't have to fiddle with System Memory Multiplier if you're not overclocking. Try setting it to auto. Overclock your CPU also overclocks your RAM, so by putting the multiplier down, you won't run in to stability issues on the RAM side. It's saying 3.0, because the 0.5 multiplier isn't...

E8500 overclock problem on gigabyte 945gcm-s2l

It should not reset like you describe, unless it's crashing from unstable clock settings. Your E8500 is using different clock settings compared to newer CPUs, so you need to be more careful. Basically there's an additional variable you need to account for. I took my Q6600 from 2.4GHz to 3.0GHz...

    Need help choosing new CPU

My 2008 Alienware with the same chassis had a spider living in the space near the front grill there. There was about a baseball worth of unoccupied space in there. Just pure looks :)

No such socket exist. AMD had a 754. Intel had 771 and 775.

    $1000-1200 Gaming Pc Build

The 620W is more than enough for any single-GPU system. Might even be able to squeeze another 1070 in there, if there's enough power connectors.

Processor or Motherboard that enable/disables Virtualization

Fair point, should've mentioned it was stuck on a modded BIOS for E5450 Xeon support and VT-x isn't enabled, ironically :)

Processor or Motherboard that enable/disables Virtualization

I've run VirtualBox on a Q6600 + G31M-S2L (low end motherboard) before. As beers say, it will just perform a bit worse.

Buying used PC. Will there be issues?

They only list 2133MHz, since anything above is basicly overclocking. Like my old CPU (still in signature) only officially supports 1066/1333MHz, but my RAM was running at 1600MHz automatically. And even if it was 2400MHz rated RAM he bought, it would run at 2133MHz without any problems. But it...

Bring 2009 netbook back to life?

I have a Packard Bell Dot, Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM and GMA 950, 1024x600 9" display. Real piece of turd, but chugs along nicely with an older LUbuntu distro. No reason to use XP these days. Has more holes that a sieve or swiss cheese.

    kinguin.net legit or scam? - Win 10

You should be able to reinstall regardless of key, even if you change motherboard. And Windows 10 pretty much accepts any excessively used key now, it's very nice :)

    Archive extraction weirdness...

https://windirstat.net/ Great software to get an overview of your disk. Might help. I prefer to use 7zip, I think it's a great piece of software. Also supports CMD commands, which can be tailored to what you need I think.
