Iirc, OpenOffice can read Microsoft Office files, or if it's for temporary use, you can use the Microsoft Office 2010 Beta but eventually Microsoft will have to discontinue the 2010 Beta, so I think you're better off with OpenOffice.

Well, I did have a surge protector moment like you, but it was my mom who told me to get my feet off of the table as I sometimes do when I'm relaxing and checking the forums or something and yeah, that happened.

Worse I had was spending 30 minutes looking for why my computer wouldn't turn on, turns out, the 24-pin wasn't plugged in completely...

G.Skill also makes really good RAM as well.
